Greenville Tech Charter High School 2009
For the third year in a row, I have been delighted to be a guest artist at Greenville Charter High School, for their Arts Intersession. I can't tell you how much fun this is to be with the teenagers for 4 days and introduce them to the wonderful art of mosaic. We worked with glass tile (vitreous) and created great signs of their choice. Then our second project was a paper mosaic, which they as a group created a 2 feet x 1 foot panel for hanging. It seems like each group get better as the years go on. So much fun! Great group of kids too. I can't wait until next year. Thanks too to Mrs Gay for helping me. Mrs. Gay you are my hero.

Henri Matisse - What a Guy!
If any of you know me, you know I love Henri Matisse. In my last blog I posted a lot of articles about his work. I ran across this article today Henri Matisse, A Step Ahead, in this explains the life of Matisse and that you are never to old for art, even on your deathbed. What an inspiration he should be to all of us.

Abstract Portrait 2008
these images are copyrighted all rights reserved 2008,2009 laura k aiken images cannot be used without consent from the artist.
mosaic photograhed by: Eli Warren
This is a technique using the value system instead of natural colors. Quiet an abstract look but oh so fun. Portraits do not always have to be exact, it really makes it more interesting to use mosaics for texture and feel to the subject. What a great gift for someone!

Sherri King
Take a look at this website. The review is from Visual Art News, views & reviews in Dallas, Texas, USA by J. R. Compton. When you go to the site check out Sherri King's mosaic, which is the second art shown. Isn't it incredible? Sherri is Sonia's mother...the artist who did the childrens hospital mural I posted earlier about. I am posting on this not only because Sherri is a incredible artist, but to also show you how absolutely beautiful we create mosaics today. It's not just pots anymore (although I love them too!) We create very modern and contemporary works of art. Enhance your home or office with touchable mosaic art.
